As a work-at-home mom, I have a ton of flexibility as far as when and where I work. I am not bound to many timetables: I have a time when I have to drop my kids off at school and a time when I have to pick them up. There’s seven hours in between that I can (usually) use as I see fit. While some people have New Year’s Resolutions (or goals for those of you who take issue with the word “resolution”), I find fall is my time of year to reflect on what I could do better. Maybe it’s the kids starting school that brings that sense of new beginnings that makes me want to get organized, get motivated and take stock of how I could do better. This fall, I’m focusing on healthy things I’m doing for myself.
4 Healthy Things I’m Doing for Myself this Fall
1. Putting myself first
Last year was the first year I worked full time from home. Not only was I not very organized with my time, I neglected my self care a lot. I’d drop my kids off at school and then go home and hit my laptop. I’d look for opportunities to write freelance stories or to make money from my own blog. I’d drop my kids off in my workout wear thinking “If I get a chance, I’ll exercise today and if I don’t, I’ll find some time to do it later.” Later usually didn’t happen.
Self care is easy to put off, but I’ve vowed to get into the mindset of putting myself first. Self care isn’t being selfish and although it’s easy to put my own needs behind my family’s. I’m trying really hard to remember I can’t serve from an empty vessel.
2. Taking Probiotic Supplements
I’ve started taking Nature Made® Digestive Probiotics + Energy‡† B12 Adult Gummies to support my digestive health. Probiotics are “good” bacteria that naturally exist in cultured or fermented foods (like yogurt and certain cheeses) that offer benefits for your digestive system. They crowd out unwanted organisms and allow more of the “good” bacteria to be present in your gut. I love using Nature Made® Digestive Probiotics + Energy‡† B12 Adult Gummies from Walmart to increase my intake of “good” bacteria and help naturally support my digestive health.† It contains Vitamin B12, which helps supports cellular energy production.‡ Nature Made® Digestive Probiotics + Energy‡† B12 Adult Gummies are available at Walmart at a trusted everyday low price! Nature Made® supplements are an awesome addition to my wellness routine and they compliment the other things I’m doing for ME. I lead a busy life and I’m always on the go…these supplements fall in line with the things I’m doing to make my life better (keep reading). 3. Setting fitness goals
My fitness is part of my self care and while it’s easy to push it off in favor of getting this or that done, it’s just as easy to knock out that run or that class and then attack all the other things. My goal is to lose weight and get stronger. I don’t have a number on the scale I want to hit, in fact, I don’t weigh myself anymore. I do have a “target” pair of jeans that I try on once a week to track my progress. I’m running a 10K and a half marathon this November, so I’m running at least twice a week. I’m also taking barre (pilates-like) classes at least twice a week to help me work on my core strength. Visualizing my goals and writing down my runs and my fitness classes in my planner have helped me to be more diligent about getting my workouts in (AKA not blowing them off, because I tell myself I’m too busy). Being vocal and sharing my fitness goals or my workout plans with others has gone a long way toward helping to keep me accountable. No one wants to answer the question “Hey, how did that run go?” with “Um…I skipped it.”

4. Better breakfasts
I know everyone says “breakfast is the most important meal of the day”, but my breakfast habits haven’t always been great. I don’t wake up hungry, so it’s easy for me to start my day off with just coffee and realize mid-morning (when I’m ridiculously busy) that I’m feeling light-headed. I’m also fighting off the hangry monster who tears into a package of cookies before lunch. I’ve been planning my breakfasts the same way I plan my family dinners. I decide what I’m eating a week in advance and do any prep work the night before…I’ve discovered overnight oats and they are SERIOUSLY awesome! If I’m on the go early in the morning and I don’t eat breakfast before I leave the house, I make sure I carry something healthy with me. Of course, I make sure Nature Made® Digestive Probiotics + Energy‡† B12 Adult Gummies are part of my start the day routine too.
